A stunning walking trail located in the heart of Funchal on Madeira Island.
The levada, or irrigation channel, was built in the 18th century to transport water from the mountains to the city, and the trail that runs alongside it offers spectacular views of the surrounding landscape.

Lush Forest in the Heart of Funchal
The walk starts in the picturesque village of Monte, famous for its beautiful gardens and the Monte Palace Tropical Garden. From there, you’ll follow the well-marked trail along the levada, which meanders through lush forests, past sparkling streams, and through small tunnels.
As you walk, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the city of Funchal and the Atlantic Ocean beyond. The trail is relatively easy, with only a few steep sections and some uneven terrain, but the scenery makes it all worth it.
One of the highlights of the walk is the Curral dos Romeiros, a small hamlet that was once a resting place for pilgrims on their way to the Monte church. Today, it is a peaceful spot with a few traditional houses and a small chapel, surrounded by green fields and the sound of running water.
The walk takes around three hours to complete, but there are plenty of places to stop and take in the stunning scenery along the way. Whether you’re a nature lover, a history buff, or simply looking for a peaceful escape from the city, the Curral dos Romeiros walk is a must-do experience when visiting Funchal on Madeira Island.

Should you need to cancel your reservation, you will only be refunded, should your cancellation be made at least until 16h00 of the previous day of the tour/walk.
Please prepare yourself with good walking shoes/boots and a warm coat (in case of low temperatures in the mountains).
For full day walk, please pack a pic nic and water to take along, as such is not provided by DG Travel.
