Starting in the mountainous village of Encumeada, this 5km walk will lead you through lush forests, past towering cliffs, and over babbling brooks.

Rugged Peaks Valley
As you make your way along the well-marked trail, you’ll be treated to breathtaking views of the surrounding landscape, including the deep valley of Serra d’Água and the rugged peaks of the surrounding mountains. The trail follows the levada, which dates back to the 16th century and was built to irrigate the agricultural terraces in the area.
Along the way, you’ll pass through small tunnels, over narrow bridges, and past traditional farmhouses that offer a glimpse into the rural way of life on Madeira Island. The sound of running water will accompany you for much of the walk, as the levada carries water down from the mountains to the fields below.
One of the highlights of the walk is the Miradouro da Serra d’Água, a viewpoint that offers a stunning panorama of the valley below. This is a perfect spot to take a break, relax, and take in the breathtaking scenery.

Should you need to cancel your reservation, you will only be refunded, should your cancellation be made at least until 16h00 of the previous day of the tour/walk.
Please prepare yourself with good walking shoes/boots and a warm coat (in case of low temperatures in the mountains).
For full day walk, please pack a pic nic and water to take along, as such is not provided by DG Travel.
